Liberated area in Occupied Europe
On 6th April 1941, after the attack of German Third Reich on the area of Slovenia, the German army occupied Metlika on 12th April and handed over the town with the countryside of Bela Krajina to the Italian army. After the capitulation of Italy on 8th September, Metlika became a free town. That same month was established the 15th brigade of the Slovenian Army – The Bela Krajina Brigade. During the time the area was liberated, the school educational system and other civil infrastructures were established together with an own monetary system. Between 10th and 16th July 1944 a wrathful battle took place between the German Army and Slovenian 15th brigade for the town, which was occupied by German Army again.
“Metlika”
Leta 1941 po napadu Nemčije na ozemlje Slovenije so nemške okupacijske sile zasedle Metliko 12. aprila in jo nato 5. maja predale italijanski vojski.
